Chenier is French for Oak. In Louisiana it is a term used to describe a thin strip of coastal land that is slightly higher than the ocean to the south and the marshes to the north. These photographs were taken in the Cheniers of SW Louisiana. Many images depict the damage inflicted by Hurricane Rita.
